Who May Enroll, How to Enroll and How to Cancel


Who May Enroll through UNITE?

UNITE enrollment is limited to students who are located in the United States during the semester for which they are registering. Short-term travel during the semester will require instructor and UNITE approval in the event of exams.

University of Minnesota students may enroll ...

  • For Graduate credit as student admitted to a University of Minnesota program;
  • For Graduate credit to transfer into a University of Minnesota program, once admitted;
  • For Undergraduate credit as student admitted to a University of Minnesota program;
  • For Undergraduate credit to transfer into a University of Minnesota program, once admitted;
  • To audit a course;
  • Through the Senior Citizen Education Program (SCEP) Icon image to indicate that this link opens in a new browser window. at the University of Minnesota;

Guests of the University of Minnesota may enroll ...

  • As a Non-Degree Seeking student (in this instance, not seeking a degree at the University of Minnesota; this might include taking a class transfer into a program at another institution);
  • To audit a course;

How to Enroll in a UNITE Section of a Course

To enroll in a UNITE section, find the example which matches your enrollment and follow the instructions below (University of Minnesota Graduate students, University of Minnesota Undergraduate students or Guests of the University).

For University of Minnesota Graduate Students

Example One: Accepted into a University of Minnesota Graduate Program:
Students accepted into a University of Minnesota program and only enrolling in UNITE section(s) for graduate credit for that program:

Example Two: Awaiting Acceptance to a University of Minnesota Graduate Program:
Students not yet accepted into a University of Minnesota graduate program and enrolling in UNITE section(s) for graduate credit to transfer into a program once accepted:

  • Step One: Complete and submit the UNITE Registration Form (online form) Icon image to indicate that this link opens in a new browser window.

  • Step Two: Request for Graduate Credit for Non-Degree Students Form (.pdf)
    Download and complete Sections One and Two of the Request for Graduate Credit for Non-Degree Students Form (UNITE staff will complete Section Three). Submit to UNITE via email, fax or in person. This is needed for each semester in which you enroll.

Graduate Course Time Conflict:
UNITE follows the University policy requiring approval of instructors of the courses if courses (UNITE sections and on-campus sections) have a time conflict.

For Graduate students, the Graduate Course Conflict Form is needed in addition:

  • Complete the Graduate Course Conflict Form (.pdf) Icon image to indicate that this link opens in a new browser window.
    Download and complete the Graduate Course Conflit Form. Submit to UNITE via email, fax or in person.

For University of Minnesota Undergraduate Students

Example One:
Students enrolling in only UNITE section(s) for undergraduate credit at the University of Minnesota (no on-campus enrollment) in a semester:

Example Two:
Students enrolling in UNITE section(s) for undergraduate credit in addition to on-campuses courses in the same semester at the University of Minnesota:

Undergraduate Course Time Conflict:
UNITE follows the University policy requiring approval of instructors of the courses in conflict. For Undergraduate students, use the additional section that is included on the Undergraduate On-Campus Approval Form (above, already required it enrolling in a UNITE section and on-campus sections(s) in the same semester).

For Guests of the University

Guests are students enrolling in a credit course who will not apply to a program of study at the University of Minnesota (for example, a student enrolling in a course to transfer into their program at a different institution or a professional auditing a course).

Guests:

  • Step One: Complete the Non-Credit Guest Enrollment Process Icon image to indicate that this link opens in a new browser window. (online)
    Note that for Step 5, instead of registering through OneStop, you will use the UNITE Registration Form (next step). If you are returning under this status in non-consecutive semesters, you may need to renew your status (for example, have taken courses as a Guest in a Fall semester but did not in the following Spring semester, to return after that as a Guest)

To Cancel a UNITE Section Registration

Use this ONLY if you have already submitted one of the UNITE Registration Sheets (above) to enroll in a UNITE section of a course and you wish to modify your enrollment:
